Hypervisor selection based on the workload, the team, and the budget. Proxmox for Linux-native shops and teams allergic to per-core licensing. VMware when the existing estate, the tooling investment, or a specific ISV certification requires it. OpenStack for hyperscale and tenants-as-a-product. Bare-metal KVM with libvirt for performance-sensitive workloads that do not want a management plane in the path. We write the decision down with the trade-offs, not the marketing.
Cluster design and the storage layer underneath. Quorum and fencing done correctly. Ceph for distributed block and object, ZFS for high-density single-node storage, SAN for the legacy databases that demand it, and NVMe-over-fabric where the latency budget is tight. Backup and snapshot strategies built into the platform, not bolted on after the first outage.
Network fabric that the hypervisor can actually use. Linux bridges, Open vSwitch, VLAN trunking, VXLAN overlays, SR-IOV for the workloads that need wire-rate, and BGP-to-the-host where the topology earns it. We design the data plane and the control plane together and we run the BGP — because we operate our own AS, we can extend the same fabric out to colo and cloud over private interconnects.

Do you support both VMware and Proxmox?
Both, plus OpenStack and bare-metal KVM. We have no certification quota to hit. We pick the hypervisor that fits the workload, the operations team, and the licensing reality, and we say so in writing before the cluster is built.
Can you migrate us from VMware to Proxmox?
Yes. We have run this conversion for shops of various sizes. The work is VM conversion, storage rebuild, network re-plumbing, and operational handover — done in waves so the business does not see a cliff.
What storage do you recommend for a new cluster?
It depends on the workload and the team. Ceph if you want distributed, self-healing, and have engineers comfortable with the operational model. ZFS for dense single-node or two-node setups. SAN when an existing investment or a specific database demands it. We pick based on the IO profile and the on-call burden.
Do you run virtualization on your own colo?
Yes. We operate multi-tenant and dedicated virtualization environments at our facilities for clients who want the cluster managed end to end without owning the hardware themselves.
